Aloha Festivals: Floral Parade
Rated one of the country's best parades and among its three most impressive floral parades, this annual eruption of flowers has its own special place in the CBS Thanksgiving Day Special. If you are in town, don't miss out on the opportunity to see it firsthand. The procession begins at Hobron Lane and heads through Waikiki to the Honolulu Zoo, displaying a rainbow of floral floats, marching bands and more. The parade is met every year by thousands of enthusiastic locals and visitors, so arrive early to secure yourself a good spot. This is one of the celebrated Aloha Festival events.
This amazing parade known as the "Floral Parade" of the Aloha Festival is a wonderful display of island colors and themes with Hula dancers, Military units and Schools proudly putting the show together; especially recommended for the kids and everyone who wants to see a concentrate of the island spirit in a 2 hour long parade.
Highly recommended, good time for free guaranteed!
Advice: get there 1 hour before it starts and try to secure a space around the intersection of Kalakaua and Saragota, that's where you have the deepest angle of vision and where most parade participants are playing music / dancing.
This parade only happen a week in September and we happened to be on our honeymoon and the parade was on the last day of our trip. We enjoyed the parade but it just was not what we were expecting. If you like to listen to marching bands this is for you. There were only two floats in the whole parade.
A definite must-see! No other parade like it in the U.S., or the world for that matter. I especially loved seeing all the pa'u riders on horses representing the ancient Hawaiian royals -- a spectacular sight to see. And the weather is beautiful in Hawaii in September!
