International Quilt Festival
This annual festival is reputed to be the "The World's Fair of Quilts." Collectors and anyone with an appreciation for fine handiwork consider this to be a must-see event. The craftsmanship and skill displayed will take your breath away. The show offers classes, demonstrations, lectures and more than 1000 booths with quilts and other crafts for sale.
It was so big and so much to see that I thought that the show should be open longer to give more time to see it all and take classes also.
But I loved the size of it all and just everything about it. I have to use a scooter and had no problems getting about and all was just great.
It was just great to see all the wonderful quilts made by so many different people from all over the world. It all was great and well appreciated and everyone there was just wonderful and so friendly too.
Color, texture and design is the life's blood of the quilt festival, I am always truly amazed with the imagination of humans, the deversity that is shown on fabric. My mind trips poetic over the shades of color and texture, i am boggled by the 160,ooo octagon, all colors of the rainbow bursting forth from quilts like flickering flames. Quilts that are painted with sutle hues of pink and green and humming birds gently drinking there necture. The life like thread art of the preening pelicans, the majic of granpa, the race of the carosel horses. How my sole is lifted and cast upon the wind to float among the goshmer wings of faries and let me play in the multiple fields of flowers. I truly love this magical land called the houston international quilt festival.
I have attended several Houston Quilt Festivals and have always come away impressed with the quality of the quilts and especially the special exhibits. Prepare for huge crowds both at the vendors and viewing the quilts. Classes were a bit overrated. They require more supplies than I care to take, although machines are provided. Often, the course content is rushed, but there seems to be plenty of time for the teachers to push their individual products. I have stopped doing the classes and find it is much more enjoyable. The shuttle system from the hotels to the Center is excellent. Food at the Center is $$$ and a bit "usual". A short walk across the park and you will find a shopping center with a great food court (it looks like a parking structure from the outside). Make a point to visit with some of the international visitors!
